Job Description: Clinton Community Schools is committed to expanding out support system at the elementary level through adding an additional school counselor to provide the following services: academic and career development, social/emotional development, student advocacy, and to serve as a liaison with parents, staff, and community resources. The elementary counselor will join additional staff at the elementary school and assist with providing a comprehensive counseling program.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in school counseling.
- Consideration will be given to individuals currently working towards a master’s degree in counseling with a minimum of 18 hours completed.
- A current K-12 Michigan certificate with NT endorsement or School Counselor License (SCL).
School Counselor Responsibilities:
- Advise and counsels students in the areas of academic, education and in personal/social development.
- Active assist in planning the school counseling core curriculum.
- Consistently uses a variety of instructional strategies that consider diverse student needs and learning differences while engaging all students.
- Provide social emotional, career development and academic counseling to students through planned activities in small groups and/or classroom settings.
- Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate stakeholders on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic & social emotional needs of students.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and education needs and abilities.
- Assist with 504 and MTSS monitoring and scheduling.
- Participates on the MTSS team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with the intervention support team.
- Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students and families to outside resources and/or to the intervention team.
- Facilitate career awareness activities for students.
- Develop and maintain skills needed to utilize technology systems and participate in professional development activities.
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
